What is a surcharge?
Surcharges are fees that a retailer adds to the cost of a purchase when a customer uses a charge/credit card. A surcharge is a percentage of the value of the sale.

Why?
Earlier in 2022, our credit card processor proposed a choice, continue to absorb the cost of processing credit card transactions or pass that cost onto the customer. We are currently experimenting with the option of passing cost onto the customer with the idea that it will incentives our customers to pay with cash or a debit card.

How much is it?
The fee is not greater than the cost of acceptance. The average credit card surcharge is less than $1.50, which is less than our average spend per customer on bags, tissue and jewelry boxes.

Where does the money go?
100% of the surcharge is distributed amongst our hourly employees to supplement the raising cost of everything.

The most important thing to take away is that this truly is just an experiment. When I say your opinion matter I mean it! We are truly grateful for your input and will take your feed back into consideration as we choose a direction forward.

What we aim to discover is;
Do our customers object to the surcharge?
Are we seeing a decrease in Credit Card transactions and an in increase in cash and debit card transactions? What we would like to see is an increase in more customers paying with cash and debit cards. That way the big banks make less money and small businesses and employees within our community will make more.
